Organic Agriculture Legislation

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is the central authority that sets and supervises policies in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, aquaculture and food safety in Türkiye. Organic agriculture activities are regulated and supervised by the Ministry under the Organic Agriculture Law No. 5262 and the Regulation on the Principles and Implementation of Organic Agriculture published in the Official Gazette No. 27676.

Organic agriculture is a form of production where every stage of production is controlled and the final product is certified. For this reason, the Ministry authorizes, inspects and registers the control and certification bodies operating throughout Türkiye with the TR-OT code. Authorized organizations provide certification services on behalf of the Ministry by following all production and processing processes within the framework of their contracts with economic operators.

Organic Crop Production

Control and certification of field crops, vegetables, fruits, viticulture and other plant production processes in accordance with the principles of organic agriculture.

Product Processing

Inspection and conformity verification of post-harvest processing of organic products according to regulatory requirements.

Packaging

Control of materials and processes used in the packaging of organic products in accordance with organic farming rules.

Labeling

Supervision of organic product labels in accordance with the Türkiye Organic Agriculture Logo and the information required by the legislation.

Storage and Transportation

Verification that the storage and transportation conditions of organic products are carried out in a way that preserves organic integrity.

Marketing

Monitoring and certification of activities for the sale of organic products in domestic and foreign markets within the scope of the regulation.

International Coordination of the Ministry

UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Framework

The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, in coordination with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), adapts the international framework of organic agriculture to Türkiye legislation; USB Certification conducts audits in accordance with this framework.

Codex Alimentarius Compliance

The Ministry ensures the implementation of internationally accepted production principles by reflecting the organic food guidelines of Codex Alimentarius, a joint commission of FAO and the World Health Organization, in national legislation.
