Recycled Claim Standard (RCS)

RCS (Recycled Claim Standard) is an international standard that verifies the origin and quantity of recycled materials used in your products. Strengthen your brand with RCS certification to ensure transparency and trust in your sustainable production chain.

Recycled Claim Standard (RCS)

What is it?

The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) is an international, voluntary standard for verifying and tracking the content of products containing recycled materials. This standard ensures traceability of recycled raw materials throughout the supply chain. RCS aims to provide a transparent, consistent and comprehensive assessment of a product’s recycled material content claims.

RCS is run by Textile Exchange. The main objective of the standard is to increase the use of recycled materials in products. This standard can be used for any product containing a minimum of 5% recycled materials.

RCS Certificate Scope

The RCS certificate is an important international certificate for companies that recycle, use or trade recycled materials in their production, especially textile, plastic, paper and metal companies.

Recovered Material Definitions

Reclaimed Material

Material that is not used for recovery as waste or energy, but is instead collected for input into recycling processes.

Pre-Consumer Material

Material diverted from the waste stream during the production process. Excludes reuse of materials that can be recovered in the same process that generated it, such as reprocessing, regrinding or scrap generated in a process.

Post-Consumer Material

Materials that have been used by consumers and turned into waste after reaching the end of their consumption life (Used Plastic Bottles, etc.)

Recycling

Recycling of the collected material into recycled material by one of the recycling methods (mechanical, chemical, biological).
