What is Food Safety Certification?

Food safety certification is the verification by an independent organization that an enterprise’s production processes, management systems and products comply with internationally recognized standards. This process is based on the principles of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), while standards put these principles into a systematic framework and create a “certificate of conformity” valid in global trade.

BRCGS and IFS standards are the two most widely recognized frameworks in this field. Both are used as primary criteria in the supplier approval processes of global retailers, particularly in Europe and the UK. ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 are the preferred standards for businesses that want to integrate the food safety framework at the corporate level with a management system-oriented approach.

USB Certification

The only TĂĽrkiye-based Certification Body approved by BRCGS and IFS

The organic fibers specified in the standards must be controlled and certified by independent and accredited institutions according to the current organic farming regulations (EC 834/2007-European Union Organic Agriculture Regulation, USDA-NOP-America’s National Organic Program, NPOP-APEDA’s National Program for Organic Production and GB/T19630-China Organic Standard from IFOAM Family of Standards).

As USB Certification, we continue our work with our experience in the field of Food and Consumer Products Certification and our expert team in our international organizations.

In TĂĽrkiye, HACCP implementation is legally mandatory, but specific standards such as BRCGS or IFS are not legal, but a commercial requirement. These certificates have become a de facto obligation for businesses wishing to export to international markets.

The time from application to document submission depends on the level of preparation of the business, but usually varies between 3 and 6 months. USB Certification experts guide your business through the preparation process.

BRCGS and IFS certificates are usually valid for 12 months, with annual surveillance or renewal audits to maintain validity.

It differs according to the target market and the buyer. British retailers usually demand BRCGS, continental European retailers demand IFS. Having both certifications is the most comprehensive solution.
