Cotton Consumption Measurements

Increase transparency in your supply chain, strengthen your sustainability reporting and certify the credibility of your brand with cotton consumption measurements in line with the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) framework.

What are Cotton Consumption Measurements?

Cotton consumption metrics are the determination of the total amount of cotton fiber used by an organization in a given period (usually 12 months). This measurement is critical to achieving sustainability goals and ensuring compliance with organizations such as the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). Metrics enable transparent reporting and tracking of cotton use in the organization’s supply chain.

Why Verification is Important

The verification process ensures accuracy and reliability in cotton consumption reporting. It guarantees that reported data accurately reflects actual usage, so that sustainability targets can be set in line with reality. At the same time, verified reports increase confidence in the claims of brands and retailers. Fully compliant with the Better Cotton Claims Framework, it provides an accurate basis for making valid claims and using on-product marking.

Who Should Verify Cotton Consumption Measurements?

According to the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), all Retailer and Brand Members (RB Members) must verify their cotton consumption metrics. This verification is done to ensure consistent and reliable reporting of sustainability claims and to maintain credibility. In particular, verification is mandatory for members wishing to use on-product marking or make enhanced claims.
