What is DAkkS? Authority and Mission
DAkkS (Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle) was established in 2009 as the national accreditation body of the Federal Republic of Germany. To date, it has granted approximately 4,300 accreditation authorizations and assesses, approves and regularly monitors the technical competence of testing laboratories, inspection and certification bodies.
DAkkS accreditation creates confidence in the services of conformity assessment bodies because it legally confirms that an organization meets the normative, legal and other requirements imposed on it and is able to competently carry out certain activities.

Legal Authority in Europe and Germany
The legal framework of DAkkS as a National Accreditation Body is determined by the European Regulation (EC) No 765/2008 and the German law governing the national accreditation body (AkkStelleG).
While the DAkkS is a legal authority in Germany and Europe due to its creation by the Federal Republic, it acts as an administrative authority beyond European borders.
